BANNED FOR LIFE

BANNED FOR LIFE POSTING GUIDELINES

Effective Date: July 14, 2026
Last Updated: July 15, 2026

These Posting Guidelines explain what users may and may not submit to Banned for Life. They apply to reports, Lifetime Ban ratings, comments, replies, photographs, profile information, place edits, flags, and all other user-submitted material (“Content”).

These Guidelines are incorporated into the Banned for Life Terms of Service. Capitalized terms not defined here have the meanings given in the Terms.

#1. The Basic Rule

Post only a truthful account of an experience you personally had or directly witnessed. Be specific about what happened. Separate facts from opinions. Do not use BFL to punish, threaten, shame, or mobilize others against a business or person.

BFL is intended to document negative consumer experiences, not to decide legal guilt, organize retaliation, or provide leverage in a private dispute.

#2. Firsthand Experiences Only

A report must concern an experience that you personally had or directly witnessed. You may not submit:

You may describe communications you personally received, including emails, messages, receipts, and business responses, if you are legally permitted to disclose them and remove unnecessary personal information.

#3. Be Accurate, Specific, and Fair About Context

#3.1 State facts carefully

Describe observable details such as:

Do not state a guess, inference, or assumption as a fact. If you are uncertain, say so. Avoid absolute statements such as “always,” “never,” or “everyone” unless you can truthfully support them.

#3.2 Distinguish opinions from factual claims

Opinions should be clearly framed as opinions. “I thought the meal was inedible” is different from stating that food was contaminated. “The transaction felt dishonest to me” is different from stating that someone committed fraud.

Calling a statement an opinion does not make an otherwise false factual assertion acceptable.

#3.3 Include material context

Do not crop, edit, summarize, or present information in a way that materially changes its meaning. If the business corrected the issue, refunded you, apologized, or disputed your account, include that context where relevant. You may criticize the response, but you may not knowingly omit it to create a materially false impression.

#3.4 Keep reports current

If you learn that a material factual statement was wrong, promptly correct or remove it. If the business later resolves the problem, you may update the report while preserving an accurate account of the original experience.

#4. Lifetime Ban Ratings

The Lifetime Ban rating is your expression of dissatisfaction with your experience:

The rating must relate to the experience described in your report. Do not select a higher rating to gain attention or punish a business. For a three-ban report, BFL may require a longer narrative, an experience date, a specific issue category, supporting context, and additional review before publication.

#5. Serious Allegations

Allegations of criminal conduct, fraud, discrimination, food contamination, serious health or safety violations, abuse, professional misconduct, or other unlawful conduct create heightened risk. Do not make these accusations based on suspicion, rumor, a disagreement over service, or your interpretation of conduct you are not qualified to assess.

Where the Service permits a serious allegation, you must:

  1. have a genuine firsthand factual basis;
  2. identify the specific conduct you personally observed;
  3. avoid stating a legal or technical conclusion as established fact;
  4. provide material context and available supporting information;
  5. avoid identifying individual employees unless necessary and expressly permitted; and
  6. submit the report for any enhanced review required by BFL.

BFL may require revisions, restrict visibility, decline publication, or direct you to an appropriate regulator or emergency service. BFL is not the place to report an emergency or seek immediate protection.

#6. Do Not Identify or Target Private Individuals

Your report should ordinarily concern the business, not an individual employee, customer, owner, contractor, or other private person.

Unless BFL expressly permits it after review, do not include:

You may use a general role where needed, such as “the manager on duty” or “the cashier.” Before uploading media, crop or blur faces, name tags, license plates, account numbers, and other unnecessary identifiers.

Public availability elsewhere does not automatically make personal information appropriate for BFL.

#7. Privacy and Sensitive Information

Do not post:

Receipts, invoices, screenshots, correspondence, and photographs must be redacted before upload. BFL may apply technical redaction or metadata-removal tools, but you remain responsible for reviewing what you submit.

#8. Harassment, Threats, and Brigading

Criticism of a business is permitted. Harassment and retaliation are not.

You may not:

Do not take a BFL dispute offline. Credible threats may be escalated to appropriate authorities.

#9. Hate and Discriminatory Content

Do not attack, degrade, exclude, threaten, or promote hatred against a person or group based on race, color, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, disability, medical condition, veteran status, citizenship, caste, or another characteristic protected by law or recognized in BFL policy.

You may report a firsthand experience of alleged discrimination if you describe the specific conduct carefully and comply with Section 5. Do not respond to alleged discrimination with slurs, stereotypes, or attacks.

#10. Conflicts of Interest, Fake Reviews, and Manipulation

You may not submit or influence Content:

<!-- COUNSEL CONFIRMED (WO8 v1.1): Edit 38 PARTIALLY REVERSED — "follows" restored verbatim. "watchlist entries", "leaderboard rankings", "participation streaks", and "guide inclusion" added in operator voice to reflect the WO8 v1.1 social/gamification layer. -->

Businesses may not submit favorable or unfavorable reports about themselves, competitors, customers, or employees.

#10.1 Rankings and community helpfulness

<!-- COUNSEL CONFIRMED (WO8 v1.1): New subsection added in operator voice. This is the guardrail paragraph the WO8 principle requires (no mechanic rewards ban volume). Confirm framing before publication. -->

Leaderboards, weekly participation streaks, and profile rankings on the Service reward community helpfulness — including the number of times other users mark your reports or comments as helpful, comments you make, and flags you raise that moderators uphold. They do not reward the number of reports you post. Submitting reports, tagging companions, or entering pairwise severity comparisons in order to gain rank, streaks, badges, or standing on the Service is a form of incentivized content and violates these Guidelines.

Auto-generated guides on the Service (for example, "most-banned {category} in {city}") are compiled by the Service from the aggregate public reports of multiple independent users and require a minimum threshold of distinct reporters per place before that place may appear in any guide. Guide inclusion is automatic and moderator-independent; you cannot request, purchase, or otherwise cause a place to be featured in a guide by any means other than legitimate independent user reports meeting that threshold.

#11. No Extortion or Conditional Posting

You may not demand or accept money, goods, services, refunds, discounts, employment action, or another benefit in exchange for:

You may truthfully state that you requested a refund or other resolution. You may not use a threatened BFL post as leverage. Businesses may not offer value conditioned on removing or changing Content, although they may resolve the underlying customer issue without that condition.

#12. Photographs, Receipts, and Other Media

Only upload media that:

  1. you created or are authorized to use;
  2. relates directly to the reported experience;
  3. has not been deceptively edited or generated;
  4. does not expose private or sensitive information;
  5. does not identify a minor;
  6. does not contain sexual, violent, or exploitative content prohibited by law or policy; and
  7. complies with applicable rules concerning recording and photography.

Do not upload stock images as evidence. Do not use artificial-intelligence-generated images, reenactments, or altered media in a way that suggests they depict the actual business or event. If permitted illustrative media is materially edited, label it clearly.

BFL may resize, convert, crop, strip metadata from, blur, quarantine, or remove media. Technical processing does not mean BFL has authenticated the media.

Do not copy reviews, articles, photographs, menus, logos, videos, or other protected material merely because it appears online. Use only material you created, licensed, or may lawfully use.

Incidental display of a business name or sign in a genuine report may be permitted, but do not use a trademark to impersonate a business or suggest sponsorship.

#14. Comments and Replies

Comments should discuss the report, ask a relevant question, or provide respectful firsthand context. Comments may not:

Disagreement is permitted. Abuse is not. BFL may slow, limit, close, or remove a comment thread when activity becomes hostile, repetitive, manipulated, or unsafe.

#15. Reserved

#16. Off-Topic, Promotional, and Low-Quality Content

Content may be removed or restricted if it is:

#17. Flagging Content

Use the flagging tool honestly. Select the most accurate reason and explain the specific issue. Do not file repeated or coordinated flags merely because you disagree with a report or dislike its rating.

Our principal moderation categories include:

A flag is an allegation, not a decision. Misuse of reporting tools may result in restrictions.

#18. Enforcement

Depending on severity, context, history, and risk, BFL may:

BFL may act immediately and without advance notice when necessary to protect safety, privacy, legal rights, evidence, or the integrity of the Service. Enforcement may differ based on context and does not create a precedent or promise of identical treatment in every case.

#19. Corrections and Appeals

If BFL asks you to revise Content, address the identified issue directly. Do not evade a restriction by reposting substantially similar material.

Where an appeal is available, submit it through the identified channel and include:

Appeals must be truthful, concise, and respectful. BFL may decline duplicative, abusive, fraudulent, or untimely appeals.

#20. Contact

To report Content, use the in-product flagging feature whenever possible.
